Kappa Nu's Founding

On April 29, 2006 twenty-six charter members and twenty alumnae were initiated by members of the Alpha Omicron chapter from The Ohio Sate University and the Delta Chapter of Allegheny College. National President Donna Smith Chereck and National Vice Present Jennifer Diederich also participated in the ceremony giving our new members a special experience and a glimpse into the bonds of our sisterhood. Katy Moon (Zeta Eta) was also on hand to offer her assistance and to meet our members. Katy will be the Resident Consultant for the 2006-2007 academic year. Later that afternoon our newest members participated in their first formal chapter meeting where the President’s gavel was given to the chapter.

Later that evening, parents, friends, collegians, alumnae, and guests from the University celebrated the official installation of the Kappa Nu chapter. National President Donna Smith Chereck presented Chapter President, Jamie Morocco, with gifts from the Fraternity including the Chapter President’s badge. Co-Colony Advisors Lisa Davis Pierce and Jennifer Daurora (both Delta ’96) were given the at the colony advisor charm as a thank you for their months of dedication to the colony.

Following the banquet, Chapter President Jamie Moroco remarked “ I am very honored to be in the company of these wonderful women and to be able to call them my sisters. I am also very proud of all of the Zeta women who decided that this was the right choice to make. I am looking forward to all of the exciting times to come! I am very fortunate to be the leader of this amazing group. We are sure to succeed with the support of Alpha Chi Omega, and I can’t wait to see that happen next fall!”

On February 1, 2006, Zeta Psi Sigma officially asked national sorority Alpha Chi Omega to become part of the Greek community on Carnegie Mellon’s campus. After 12 years as part of the University, the local sorority has been adopted by a national organization.

Rho Lambda, a leadership and honor society for sorority women, will feature individuals in a new Women’s Leadership Series based on their contributions to campus life and their achievements as leaders and role models in the Carnegie Mellon and greater Pittsburgh communities. Anne DiGiovanni is the organization’s first honoree for the series. http://www.thetartan.org/2006/2/27/news/digiovanni
